Mitsubishi Materials Corporation (“MMC”) is working to strengthen the competitiveness of the Copper & Copper Alloy Products Business and optimize its business portfolio under the Medium-term Management Strategy (FYE March 2027–2029).
The Copper & Copper Alloy Products Business serves as an important interface with customers in promoting the resource circulation loop. MMC is promoting the recycling of customer-generated scrap and advancing alloy recycling technologies. In addition, MMC is strengthening its efforts in growth areas such as high value-added copper alloys and materials for data centers.
Under this policy, MMC has decided to discontinue its slitting and sales operations for copper and copper alloy strips at Ryoshindo Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd. (“RM”), a wholly owned subsidiary of MMC located in Johor, Malaysia. This decision is part of MMC’s efforts to optimize its production and supply structure and strategically allocate management resources.
Since its establishment in 1995, RM has served as a supply base for the Southeast Asian market. In recent years, however, RM’s operating environment has changed significantly due to shifts in market and competitive conditions, as well as tighter restrictions on scrap exports in Malaysia.
In light of these circumstances, the Mitsubishi Materials Group conducted a comprehensive review of its supply network and resource circulation strategy. As a result, the Group concluded that optimizing its production and logistics functions would strengthen competitiveness, improve capital efficiency, and enhance corporate value over the medium to long term.
Through this reorganization, MMC will improve production efficiency and capital efficiency by reducing inventories. At the same time, MMC will strategically reallocate the resources and production capacity freed up by the reorganization to growth areas, including high-performance copper alloys, materials for xEVs, and materials for data centers. Through these initiatives, MMC aims to further strengthen the competitiveness of the Copper & Copper Alloy Products Business and achieve sustainable growth.
